Ok, my mind has been pretty clear these days. I seem to only think of one thing at a time. But today, I seem to be drifting all over.
- Finally found myself on my page; alas I have a blog, not been here in a long long long time. I wonder when life became so boring. Nothing to write or is it more of a lot to write but no zeal to type. Maybe!
A few months back, it was our wedding anniversary, Yippie. Happy married life to Tade and Bunmi, it still feels strange that now I have to write Tade and Bunmi. I could no longer write my name as I love writing it "Tadebunmi". Funny enough one fake chick in Biz school thought Bunmi is my surname."duh".
Since this is our first anniversary, we started planning for the anniversary in October, the big trip for 2010 would be for our anniversary. We decided it was going to be Europe again. This time around Italy will be the destination. I have heard so much about Florence, but we could not make it there. We covered Venice, Rome and a lil of Milan. Don't ask.
The first stop was in Venice, by the time we made it there, we have used all existing forms of transportation - car, plane, bus, train, a vaporretto and we walked. Finally we got to the hotel, small but very nice. We took a nice evening walk around town, had some proper italian pasta for dinner and we called it a night.
Trouble started at the breakfast table in the morning, no eggs. My newly found obsession was clearly missing. I walked gingerly to the reception area to ask the clerk if they could provide eggs. Unfortunately for me, the guy does not speak English. So I proceeded to describing what I wanted in English, since I could not master more than one italian word before we started the trip. That was a battle lost. We gave up trying to find egss in Venice. We explored the city; discovered the market and how to walk accross town without taking the very expensive Vaporretto that can't get you anywhere. Venice, Water Baby!! Two days later, we were ready to roll. I am so excited I fulfilled my romantic dream of visiting Venice with my husband before it sinks. Not sure it is sinking, but there was water everywhere.
A Roma! Rome in a weird way is like New York city, but with a lot more chao and no controls. O yes!! I loved Rome, the ancient Rome - btw, what is the hype about Sistine Chapel? by the time we finally made it there, we have seen so many beautiful works of art; rooms and tapestry. I expected I will be super impressed by the Chapel, if all those were just preparing us to see it. And I hated Rome, the modern Rome - stop signs and red lights don't mean dilly-squat to drivers. The fear of pick pockets, planted firmly in our minds by Rick Steves, prevented me from being able to enjoy the train and bus rides. Our hotel was perfect, close to the central termini. Although I still can't get over the fact that you almost always have to get to the termini to change trains. My favorite sight is the Colosseum, I could only imagine how the gladiators felt. It was imppressive. I equally loved the spanish steps, the fanciest hangout place ever. Did I mention we finally found our American breakfast in Rome? One more reason to love Rome.
We were in Milan for only one day, but it was easy mastering the trains and trams. Coming from NY, we could not bring ourselves to buy anything in the over-priced shopping district. End of Trip. New York here we come. Back to work and life.
